The First Six Months
‘This is why you do it, and this is why you’re here.’
This is the mantra I repeat to myself, three times over, on the start line every time I race. When the adrenalin and the tension reach fever pitch, I grab hold of my nerves, close my eyes and rest them on my forearms.
‘This is why you do it. And this is why you’re here.’
Three times, every time.
I say it to remind myself that, despite the fear, I love this.
The fear doesn’t come from being afraid of crashing. That’s happened too many times already. It comes with the job.
No, the fear comes from knowing the pain I am about to put myself though, from knowing that no matter how good my last result was, it means nothing now.
You take your wheel to the edge of the precipice and you look over the lip. Every time. When the hammer drops you have a choice, to let the wheel in front of you go…
If you let it go you have become broken. If, when the final push comes and the chance is there to break them and you let that pass, you have lost. It doesn’t matter where the finish line is or where you’ll be placed when you cross it, because you aren’t going to be first.
If you’ve already lost in your mind, you’re lost for good.

Hannes Klausner Exploring the Unknown
Lezyne ambassador Hannes Klausner takes to the island of Sao Vicente to take on the trails that no mountain bike has conquered before. Traveling 640 Km off of the coast of Africa, Sao Vicente offered some fresh trails just waiting to be tackled.
“For me the idea of exploring the unknown was to come to this place, no expectations at all and just see what we have. At the end we were the first to explore the mountains in this area with a bike and although it was very difficult due to the windy conditions was a great experience for new places to ride, new and friendly people with a totally different way of living.” – Hannes Klausner

In this Red Bull production, Danny teams up with long time collaborator Dave Sowerby to bring trials riding to explore the forgotten town. Eerily beautiful scenery mixed with talented street trials riding makes for an epic watch.
Riding Addiction Cairns World Cup Report
The Riding Addiction Team recently found some success in the Cairns World Cup in South Africa. The team gives a report of the event in their own words:
“The 2014 UCI World Cup has kicked off 3 weeks ago in South Africa. The team was really excited to start this new season. Myriam, Rémi, Cam, Thibaut and Gaëtan were motivated to have a good launch into this new season.
It’s always good to be back in South Africa, great atmosphere, wonderful landscapes, even if the track is not the most adored one : Everyone knew it would be one of the most physically demanding track of the season and this year track builders built some interesting new features to make it more technically. Adding this, dry and dusty conditions, it resulted a pretty tricky combo.
Myriam offered us the best surprise, usually not at her best on this track, she managed to get a really good 4th place. Cam was in the pace too with a promising 12th place, he had a clean run but admit with more confidence he could have been faster. Rémi had a really good top part split, which ranked him 6th, but he lost a lot in the pedaling section, he ended up 20th. Thibaut was further in the ranking with the 45th spot, disappointed with his run which missed a lot of rhythm. Gaëtan had a good come back in the top 80 with a 67th place, 1 month and half only after his collarbone surgery.”

André Greipel and Lotto-Belisol take first win of the Season!
Congratulations to André Greipel and the rest of team Lotto Belisol for their fast and successful start to the season! Lotto Belisol took their first win of the season with a stellar performance by André Greipel, who was the fastest in the fourth stage of the Tour Down Under, and teammates Jürgen Roelandts and Elia Viviani.
It is André Greipel’s 15th stage win ever, with more to come. Greipel commented after the win:
“For me this was the first real sprinter’s chance at the Tour Down Under. That today we not only take the stage win but also the second place with Jürgen Roelandts shows the strength of our team. This was a very strong collective performance. It was a nervous stage, with a lot of crosswind. At the right moment we raised the pressure which resulted in a split of the peloton. Of course I’m glad I could take my first victory. I knew the last climb and the final well, so I knew what we could expect. This well-deserved victory is great. The team is rewarded for its work. The confidence was there, but because of the victory we are all the more looking forward to the final stage on Sunday.”
Again, congratulations to the Lotto Belisol team! Cheers to continued success!
